We are looking for our Mia

This page is dedicated to Mia and also to everyone who has ever experienced the crazy feeling of helplessness when their canine companion disappears.
We share our experience and search process with those who may find it helpful.

Mia is our love and a great companion. She got lost on March 13, 2025, above Tereza cottage in Vítkovice.Since then, she has vanished without a trace, and we haven’t stopped searching.Mia could be anywhere now on the other side of the country, or abroad.

You can also help by printing a poster and putting it up in your area.

Mia is now almost a year-old female dog (born April 21, 2024) of golden color with white markings. She has a collar with her name and the owner’s contact information, is microchipped, and weighs approximately 30 kg. She is kind and gentle to people and animals.

Tips and advice for those who are in a similar situation

After publishing the plea for help with the search, a huge wave of solidarity and assistance arose, which we incredibly appreciate – for all the shares and advice we received. For those who find themselves in the same situation, we are sharing how we searched and what helped us. If it helps save even one pet, we will be happy.

What to do at and around the location of loss

  • Search the surrounding area immediately. Comb through everything you can think of.
  • Place personal clothing at the location of loss. Because of the scent – a dog that has run away may return to it.
  • Return to the location as often as possible. The dog may be waiting there. It will return there.
  • Explore wells in the surrounding area | Map – Drilling Exploration
  • Drive around all the roads in the area, railroad crossings, etc. This makes sense within 48 hours of the loss.
  • Identify on the map all possible bodies of water and potential other dangers where the animal may fall. Search them.

Drone Usage

  • The price is approximately 6,000 CZK / 2 hours of searching.
  • You need to find the nearest drone operator: Psí detektiv or Drone Sight.
  • The success rate of a drone is up to 40% and decreases with increasing time.
  • If you want to use a drone, then do so within the first 24 hours.
  • ATTENTION! National parks and city centers are often no-fly zones, where you must first apply for an exemption, and you may not always get it.
  • Airspace map for drone pilots.
  • If you do not get an exemption, use the contact information and ask for more information about the loss of your dog within the institution and, if possible, to share it on its social networks (in our case, KRNAP).

Chip

  • The chip needs to be registered. If you haven’t, register it immediately here:

Organizations That Help With Searching

  • PSÍ DETEKTIV (DOG DETECTIVE) – searching for lost animals
    • The largest portal that helps find lost pets.
    • They are very professional. First aid arrives immediately after registration – a ready-made flyer, a post on social networks + recommendations for the search procedure.
    • Furthermore, it is possible to use paid advertising on social networks and Google + sending emails to selected districts to all institutions that can help with the search (police, mayors, hunters, associations, veterinarians, shelters, etc. Not everyone will receive it 100% – emails may fall into spam).
  • BADY z. s.
    • Mrs. Petrlíková is an expert in catching dogs and other animals.
    • She was a great advisor to us. She gave us direction, and most importantly, we learned how a dog can behave and also incredible stories of dogs who returned home after many months.
  • NAJDI MAZLÍČKA (FIND A PET)
    • Another portal that helps with finding pets.
    • Helps with expanding the online campaign, plus based on information from people, they help track down the pet.

Whom Else to Contact

  • Local Authority – Ask them to announce the information on the radio, or send it as an SMS or email to all locals.
  • Local Hunting Association – Inform them that the dog has run away and find out about the hunting season. Ask them for information if they shot the dog before you contacted them. It is their right to shoot the dog, and it is better for you to know that the dog is gone than to search for it endlessly.
  • Road Administration of the Region – Call them and ask them to let you know if they find the dog hit by a car.
  • Acquaintances in the Area Where the Dog Was Lost – Call them and ask them for contacts to other acquaintances in the area where the dog was lost (unrealistic in cities). Call everyone you can to see if they have seen the dog or if they happen to have it. Then go around all the houses and cottages that you can manage. Ask locals to search with you when they go for a walk.
  • Veterinary Chamber – Place an advertisement on the Veterinary Chamber. This information will reach all veterinarians in the Czech Republic.

Reward for Finding

  • It is not recommended to offer a reward publicly online. Such online campaigns attract various people who rob you of precious time, nerves, and money, and are not effective.
  • It is recommended to offer the reward on flyers that you distribute in the immediate vicinity, approximately within 20 km of the place of loss.

Help in the online space

  • Launch a massive online campaign if the dog is not found soon. Then it is possible that someone took him anywhere (in the Czech Republic and abroad).
  • Spread information to various Facebook groups in the area and those focused on dogs throughout the Czech Republic and abroad.
  • Ask your friends to spread the word, as well as friendly businesses such as shelters, local institutions (park administrations, rescuers, police, etc.)
  • Spread the information everywhere you can think of. Acquaintances have acquaintances, dog owners often sympathize and have contacts with other dog owners and non-dog owners (mayors, police, …).
  • Search dog ads
    • If you can’t find your dog for too long, try this option as well
    • Not only Czech, but also foreign portals such as “Bazoš” “Sbazar” etc.
    • On many online marketplaces, you can set up a so-called “watchdog”, where you will receive e-mails with, for example, only ads for specific breeds

Losing a Dog and Your Mental Health

  • Expect to encounter “jerks” everywhere. Some people will be unpleasant, lump you together with irresponsible owners, and reproach you for not watching your dog. Experience shows that it’s pointless to argue with them. Focus on finding your dog.
  • Furthermore, you may get calls/texts from children and fools who have nothing better to do than make fun of you, claiming they have your dog at home or saw him. You will quickly learn to recognize who wants to help and who just doesn’t understand that their actions are hurtful. It’s disgusting, but there’s no other defense against it than ignoring them and focusing on what’s important – searching and, alongside that, normal life (which is challenging enough in itself).

Alternative Methods

Many fortune tellers, psychics, and the like can locate an animal. In our case, it didn’t help. We tried 3 different ones.
We always got a recommendation from someone who it helped. Ask your friends for a contact. We can refer you to psychic Marta.
